The Longsands are delighted to announce that Bluetones’ front man Mark Morriss will be making a special guest appearance at their album launch on Fri 8th of June at Newcastle University.

The Bluetones were a key part of the Britpop movement in the mid-nineties and had huge success with their album ‘Expecting to Fly’ which included the hits ‘Slight Return’ and Bluetonic and knocked ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory?’ off the top of the album charts on it’s release.

Longsands guitarist and songwriter Ian Barnes said ‘It is amazing that Mark has agreed to come up for the gig. He has been a friend and fan of the band now for a few years so we invited him to come up to see us perform. It was a dream come true when he agreed to play a few songs from his back catalogue as The Bluetones were a major inspiration on our music.’

Morriss also performed at Longsands’ singer Trevor Cox’s stag do and it was here that he got to know the band really well.

‘Ian hired me for Trev’s stag do a couple of years back and I stayed the night and had a few beers and a sing song with the lads. They are a great band and I am really looking forward to their record coming out, it’s a fantastic album and it’s long over due,’ said Morriss.

The Bluetones downed tools last year with a sell out farewell tour so this is a rare chance to see these songs performed at their purest.
